Olivia is a 17 year-old grade 12 student who attends Charles Best high school in Coquitlam, B.C. Over the next two years, Olivia and her family will experience one of the biggest challenges they’ve had to face – Olivia’s transition from high school to adult life.
So far the family feels they have been well supported through the Ministry of Children and Family Development but worry about the challenges that lie ahead.Olivia’s dad describes their Italian family as close-knit with strong family values. Her three sisters (who are also in their teens) have always talked about being there for Olivia as they get older, though they may not know at this point what that looks like. They are all committed to doing what is needed to help Olivia live a happy, healthy and independent life.
Since Olivia was young, her family talked about the importance of her independence, but also her safety. They decided to build a separate suite within the family home for when she got older. This has allowed for some stability and comfort about where Olivia will live when she’s older. The suite was finished this year.

Olivia currently works at Dairy Queen as part of her high school’s work experience program. She loves her job and she’s good at it. Her success within this placement has shown Olivia and her family that employment is a viable and important part of her future.
